Animalitarian was created by Madeline Anne Zetye as a concept born from a lifelong connection to animals, storytelling, and visual expression.
Raised in Michigan, she was shaped by nature, imagination, and a family deeply devoted to rescuing and caring for stray animals. From a young age, she spent long hours alone in the woods, observing animals in their natural habitat and learning from them quietly and instinctively. These early experiences formed a lasting respect for the animal kingdom and a creative foundation rooted in empathy, inquisitiveness, and deep attunement.
After moving to Los Angeles at age twenty, she built a career as a self-taught writer and designer, navigating years of creative growth, challenge, and exploration in a large and demanding city. Over time, her work consistently returned to three core passions: animals, storytelling, and design.
These elements eventually came together to create Animalitarian, a philosophy and creative world reflecting a lifelong commitment to compassion, awareness, and expression. This vision led to her children’s book series, beginning with Marian the Animalitarian, which introduces young readers to empathy, imagination, and the animal world through storytelling.
